Longworth Blog Advent 2019

Melissa with a Christmas Hat Longworth Christmas Blog

In the spirit of the 12 days of Christmas, I decided to take a new approach and put some challenging questions to members of our team. There are various questions posed to me colleagues through December with a final word from our Managing Director in response to his team’s outlook on health and safety at Longworth during 2019. But first, I took a look over 2019 in relation to SHEQ and the progress team Longworth have made.

Longworth Progress in 2019

First of all is successful retention and positive feedback on our UKAS certified management systems. The work that goes in to maintaining excellent standards throughout the business is something quite refreshing to see. The input from colleagues at all levels is certainly re-assuring when it comes to leading the way in our industry.

Our number of training days (as well as the value of those days) is increasing year on year, showing Longworth’s real commitment to SHEQ and the development of our people. Our staff turnover is low and particularly low for the construction industry meaning what we are doing works for the business and the employees.

The SHEQ committee has grown in numbers and in value, with individuals from all departments and all levels of the business we get a broad range of input into our processes. The most recent meeting held 15% of all employees and everyone present spoke on behalf of colleagues and is in a position to influence others. Which goes to show why the committee is a valuable tool in how we manage the business.

Standards on site are improving in terms of SHEQ and our employees are developing more and more confidence to speak up when something ‘isn’t right’.  I think that our willingness to accept feedback and encouraging communication help this.

Everyone in the business should be very proud at what has been achieved so far and the direction in which we are headed. Personally I am most proud of the fact that everyone has a voice and it will be heard. The way we operate is down to the influence of all our of employees and not just our directors.

In this advent blog you will hear from different people throughout the business, so keep an eye on our page!

What our clients say

"The efforts during the construction stage of the works must be commended. The quality of the finished product is evident to anyone who cares to visit the campus at Stockport College."
