Pre-Construction Advice

Our team can provide valuable product and design advice at any stage of a project. With years of experience and long-standing relationships with product manufacturers, our engineers ensure that projects remain within budget without compromising architectural integrity.

Project Management

We utilise a collaborative project management programme to ensure we deliver projects on time, within budget, and most importantly, safely.

Fabrication

Our in-house fabrication service can deliver a wide range of high quality bespoke roofing and cladding solutions, utilising computerised folding and cutting machinery to ensure a precise and consistent end product.

Design

The latest computerised design systems equip our design team with the ability to provide clients, architects and main contractors with a complete plan for the construction project. For the more intricate designs, we have the facilities to produce a 3D image to assist with the design. All of our designers have been trained up to BIM Level 2.

Planning

For each project we provide a strict planning service. This includes producing detailed plans, method statements and risk assessments. The end result is a structured project following a critical path. We communicate with the client at every step of the way and our contracts manager is assigned to oversee the project, co-ordinating between the client, design, and site teams.

We commit ourselves to providing the most economical service available. We are not tied into any one supplier or system which means value engineering is always available. The rapidly expanding Unite the Union had outgrown its Stoke city centre premises and made the decision to replace it with a state-of-the-art, four storey facility with TECU Zinn copper roofing and cladding.

 

Copper Roofing and Cladding

Flanagan Group were selected as the main contractor to build the new offices, and through a tendering process, Longworth was successful in securing the cladding package which included Tecu Zinn shingle format copper roofing and cladding and all the support structure fixed back to steelwork.

We were faced with the task of creating a curved façade having been given a facetted steel structure to work to. As well as this, there were a number of windows within the area of cladding which would make the installation of the shingles labour intensive due to the small number of standard shingles.

The curved appearance was created using the Nvelope aluminium bracket and rail system. The rails were run vertically at 600mm centres to carry the plywood support for the Tecu Zinn and were adjusted using the available tolerances in the Nvelope brackets to create the curve.

Smart Copper Roofing and Cladding

The decision was taken to manufacture the shingles on site, due to the amount of cuts that were required around the windows. This massively reduced the estimated wastage.

To assist the main contractor, Longworth advised that the scaffolding could be removed and the cladding installed from MEWPs. This reduced the main contractor’s hire period for the scaffolding, and also enabled them to progress other works which were being deayed by the scaffolding.

The skill and craftsmanship required to install the copper roofing and cladding could only be carried out by a small number of companies across the UK that have that level of proficiency and prowess at their disposal and at Longworth Building Services we have the very best in our team.

Overall we were very happy to be involved with such an aesthetically pleasing project and were delighted with our operatives’ workmanship on such a challenging project.
