Longworth are fired up to felt with NFRC’s Safe2Torch campaign 13 Jul 2017

Longworth sign up to the NFRC‘s new Safe2Torch campaign

As part of Longworth’s commitment to safe working practices they are working together with the NFRC to support their latest campaign ‘Safe2Torch’. The NFRC are encouraging their members to sign up to highlight best practices and guidance for the safe installation of torch-on reinforced bitumen membranes.

Safe2Torch registered member

As a registered member of Safe2Torch, Longworth have committed to:

  • Highlighting and reporting specifications which do not conform to Safe2Torch
  • Identifying and reducing the risk of roof fires caused by gas torches
  • Ensuring all employees are trained in the use of gas torches and their associated risks
  • Ensuring all supervisors or charge hands have completed the Safe2Torch checklist prior to hot works commencing

Longworth will be employing the NFRC’s new campaign initiative in all of their future RAMS and using the checklist prior to all hot works starting. The checklist provides clear instruction of how to prepare the area of work and when / why to avoid the use of direct torch-on application in those areas. NFRC’s guidance document promotes specification writing at the initial survey and design stage and a safe system of work when using propane gas torches for the application of roofing membranes and the drying of roof surfaces.

Longworth have recently secured 8000m2 of felt roofing contracts. The campaign will ensure that those projects are started right and installed safely.
